Amino promotes IPTV across China

Supporting the development of communication and entertainment in China, a British broadband and software systems company will supply cutting edge technology to the rapidly growing Chinese market.

Amino Technologies linked up with local counterpart Chengdu USEE Digital Technology, a subsidiary of Chinese Electronic Technology Group, to introduce its leading IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) set-top box technology into homes across China.

Based in Cambridge, Amino designs systems and software geared towards on-demand video, IPTV and in-home multimedia distribution. Amino is a global leader in the industry with a presence in 80 countries.

USEE, a subsidiary of Chinese Electronic Technology Group, targets the multimedia communication market undertaking high-level strategic development and fostering technology innovation to provide competitive products with a professional service.

These communication and entertainment products will enable ordinary Chinese people to access new services such as IPTV, video, gaming, shopping and local information.

By partnering with local specialist USEE, Amino offers its global expertise to help accelerate the development of the technology in the region and bring it to Chinese homes.

The partnership, which involves locally designed, manufactured and branded consumer products, offers a more flexible alternative than other end-to-end solutions by providing access to TV services, games and commerce through proven and optimized IPTV technology.

Amino and USEE are playing a significant part in the progress of the region. Both organizations have created an offering that will bring an IP connected home environment to less technologically advanced Chinese regions slower to adopt IPTV.

"This technology will provide a communication tool to more remote locations of China, giving people access to technology we take for granted in more developed cities such as London or Shanghai," said CEO Robert Giddy.

"We are committed to working with China, but also to specifically supporting the development of the west Chinese region. Cooperation with our Chinese partner is the key focus for us to make this a real success story," he added.

Amino, the only British hi-tech company that is operating in Chengdu, adopted the Chinese standard AVS (Advanced Video Service) format specifically for its joint activities with USEE.

"We bring our innovation and software skills from the UK, while USEE provides their system integration expertise, localization capability and manufacturing power. We see the relationship as one where both partners benefit equally and we look forward to continued success," Giddy said.

On another front, Amino is heavily invested in China. While the new relationship between Amino and USEE has created exciting opportunities for the people and businesses of China, Amino has also developed an ongoing investment in China from another perspective.

For the past five years, it has employed manufacturing facilities in Shenzhen to produce devices that it exports to other markets globally, such as America and Europe.

Building on this existing commitment to working with the Chinese economy, Amino will develop the relationship as a strong technology supplier with USEE to create a successful partnership and bring a compelling IPTV offering to the Chinese people.
