Man United poised to capture Tevez signing - Gill
TOKYO: Manchester United chief executive David Gill expects West Ham's Argentine striker Carlos Tevez to join the English Premier League champions "in the course of the next week or so".
Gill's comments came at a news conference in Tokyo on the eve of Manchester United's friendly match against J-League champions Urawa Reds today.
"We are working on it and clearly it's complicated - overly complicated in my humble opinion," Gill said of the transfer yesterday.
"And we are working, effectively, with four other parties in order to sort it out: the player, West Ham, the companies who own his economic rights and the Premier League.
"The process is going on as we speak. The player is coming over to Manchester and will have a medical some time this week.
"I don't want to give you the date in case you stalk him," Gill joked.
"But he's coming over... and we'll take it from there, but obviously that's going to be subject to sorting out all the paperwork.
"We're very confident that that can be achieved in the course of the next week or so."
However, the future of Argentine defender Gabriel Heinze, who has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Liverpool, remains less clear.
"Heinze and his agents have been adamant he wants to move on," manager Alex Ferguson said.
"We are not too sure about that but we don't have a concrete offer from any particular club.
"There has been some momentum regarding the player's next move in terms of through his agent, but nothing clear at this moment in time."
The team arrived in Tokyo on Monday without the injured quartet of Park Ji-sung, Gary Neville, Louis Saha and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who all had surgery earlier this year.
Ferguson expects Neville to rejoin the squad after their two-week Asian tour, Solskjaer soon after that and Saha in early to mid-August.
The four-match tour concludes against Chinese sides Shenzhen FC on July 23 and Guangzhou Pharmaceutical FC on July 27.
