Quanzhou team wins basketball invitational
The National Basketball Invitational for Counties ended yesterday in Shuangliu County, Sichuan Province with Quanzhou Team from Fujian Province took the championship after defeating local team in the final.
The Quanzhou team dominated the final game and silenced the crazy local fans with a 100-66 convincing victory. Shanshi Team from Henan Province placed at third.
It was a heartbreaking moment for Shuangliu team who squeezed into the final as the surprising leader in the group stage.
The event, organized by Chinese Basketball Association, aims to promote the game of basketball in the grassroots level in China. It is also a part of activities organized to celebrate the International Sports Press Day.

Gan'nan to host national tug of war contest
The Yeliguan Cup China National Tug of War Championships and the Taozhou 618th 10,000-person tug of war tournament will take place in Lingtan, Gan'nan in Gansu Province from July 16 to 18.
The event, organized by the Social Sports Administrative Center of China State General Administration of Sports, Gansu Sports Bureau, the Gan'an Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture People's Government, China Tug of War Association and the Gan'nan Sports Bureau, will attract over 300 participants representing 15 teams from around the country including the Macao Special Administrative Region.
Event organizers said the event is held in answer to China's National Fitness Program.
With 2008 Beijing Olympic Games looming, more and more traditional sports of the nation are being organized and help promote the spirit of Olympics.
