Celtic snap up midfielder Donati from AC Milan

Scottish champions Celtic on Monday announced the signing of AC Milan midfielder Massimo Donati.

The Italian, 26, has agreed a four-year deal, reportedly worth around $6 million, and will travel to Glasgow for a medical early next week.

A Celtic spokesman told the club's web ite: "We are delighted that Massimo has signed for the club.

"He is a player of real quality and we're sure he will be a great addition to the squad."

Massimo, 26, is manager Gordon Strachan's fourth summer signing to go with Australian striker Scott McDonald, New Zealand forward Chris Killen and Scottish international midfielder Scott Brown.

Kanoute commits to Sevilla after King's Cup success

MADRID: Sevilla striker Frederic Kanoute pledged his future to the club after scoring the winner in his side's 1-0 victory over Getafe in the King's Cup final on Saturday.

"I've got two years left on my contract and I'm not planning on moving from here," he told reporters after the game at the Bernabeu.

The 29-year-old Mali international, whose 21 league goals helped fire his side to an impressive third-place finish in the Primera Liga, had been reported to be pushing for a move back to England.

"I've read a lot of things that aren't true," he said. "I've had two great seasons here and now we've won another trophy. My aim is to keep on fighting for Sevilla."

Getafe hopeful of hanging on to coach Schuster

MADRID: Getafe president Angel Torres has said he is hopeful the club can stave off interest from Real Madrid to hang on to their coach Bernd Schuster.

The German has been tipped as the most likely replacement for Fabio Capello, as Real try to make up their minds whether or not to continue with the coach who has just delivered them the Primera Liga title.

"Schuster will be the coach of Getafe next season," Torres told Spanish state television on Sunday night.

In the Spanish media on Monday he added: "I continue to believe there could yet be a surprise with Schuster and that he will stay with us. No one from Real Madrid has spoken to me about the subject."

Manaudou makes winning return to France

SAINT-RAPHAEL, France: Laure Manaudou won the women's 800 metres freestyle title at the French swimming championships on Sunday.

Manadou, the 200 and 400 freestyle world champion, was making her first appearance in France since splitting with coach Philippe Lucas and moving to Italy.

She looked in good shape but clocked a modest time of eight minutes 31.26 seconds ahead of second-placed Coralie Balmy (8:32.01) and Sophie Huber (8:32.20) in third.

Manaudou, one of France's best hopes of success at next year's Olympic Games in Beijing, is due to take part in eight individual events and three relays at the French championships.
