Olympics
Event held to promote well-behaved audience
As recognized around the world, a successful hosting of an Olympic Games includes well-behaved fans from the host nation.
To ensure a successful Beijing Olympic Games as promised by the Chinese government, the image competition for sports fans of China was intiated on Monday in Beijing.
The event, aimed at raising people's awareness for civilized behavior during the 2008 Olympics and to promote the Olympic Movement in China, was organized by the Press Commission of the Chinese Olympic Committee and the Social Sports Administrative Center under the China State General Administration of Sports.
The event will feature preliminaries from July 15 to October 31 in all Chinese cities, before the eight regional finals from November 1 to January 31. The grand finale will be on June 6, 2008 in Beijing.
Organizers will also select the best make-up, best hair-do, best slogan, best prop, best move, best song and best clothing.
Soccer
Stars set to light up Hong Kong Stadium
An all-star soccer team composed of former world and Olympic champions, leading Hong Kong and Chinese mainland actors and actresses and TV soccer anchormen will play an under-card match in the Bayern Munich and Sao Paulo friendly to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the return of Hong Kong SAR to China at the Hong Kong Stadium on July 1.
The exhibition match is an important activity for the all-star team in promoting the Beijing Olympics and national fitness program. The team includes Yang Ling, Olympic men's running target gold medallist, defender Wen Lirong and goalkeeper Gao Hong who led the Chinese women's team to two second-place finishes during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and the 1999 World Cup.
The match at 12:30pm will be followed by the Bayern-Sao Paulo match at 14:30 and the China vs world all-star team at 17:15.
Tennis
University league concludes in Beijing
The Final of the Sony Ericsson Chinese College Tennis League concluded at Tsinghua University in Beijing on Sunday.
Zhengjiang University beat Southwest University to claim the Men's Group A title and Central University for Nationalities ousted Beijing University of Chemical Technology to top the women's Group A.
Jinan University and Beijing University of Physical Education won the men's and women's titles of Group B.
The event is organized by Sony Ericsson, Chinese Students Sports Association, and the educational and sports authorities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong and Sichuan.
