Lucky escape for Hanson after electric shock
SYDNEY: Australia's Olympic swimming medallist Brooke Hanson was recovering in a Melbourne hospital on Sunday after suffering an electric shock in a spa pool.
Hanson was reportedly in a stable condition after she was rushed to hospital when she collapsed moments after climbing out of the pool.
Hanson's father, Ian, who is also the media spokesman for the Australian swim team, said his daughter had a lucky escape and was expected to make a full recovery.
"It was like she just wanted to go to sleep straight away, and that's the effect of a major shock, apparently," Hanson told Australian television.
"She's more embarrassed than anything else... hopefully she's going to be fine."
Hanson won a silver medal in the 100 meters breaststroke at the 2004 Athens Olympics and was also awarded a gold for swimming a heat for the Australian team that won the 4x100 medley relay.

Edwards ends lean spell with win in Michigan
DETROIT: Carl Edwards ended a 52-race winless streak by pulling away to win the NASCAR race at Brooklyn, Michigan, on Sunday.
The Ford-driving Edwards had not won a race since November 2005. He did a backflip off the car after the race to celebrate his fifth career win.
"This one is for you, Dad," Edwards told reporters as he celebrated in the victory lane on Father's Day in the United States. "I have been waiting to give him a trophy."
Martin Truex finished second and Tony Stewart was third. They were followed by Casey Mears and Dale Earnhardt Jr. All drove Chevrolets.

Chanderpaul puts West Indies on top in test
DURHAM, England: Shivnarine Chanderpaul scored an unbeaten 136 to thwart England once more as West Indies showed some resistance on the third day of the fourth and final test on Sunday.
The Guyanese left-hander, who has not been dismissed for 804 minutes after 116 not out in the last test, helped West Indies recover from 55 for four on Saturday to a competitive first innings total of 287 and a position of strength in the match.
England, already series winners with a 2-0 lead, closed on 121 for four with opener Andrew Strauss making his first half-century of the summer to finish on 72.
Paceman Fidel Edwards claimed some important late wickets for figures of three for 40.

Berdych too strong for birthday boy Baghdatis
HALLE, Germany: Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic beat Marcos Baghdatis 7-5 6-4 on Sunday to spoil the Cypriot's 22nd birthday party and win the Halle Open.
Fourth seed Berdych, beaten by Roger Federer in last year's final, was too consistent for Baghdatis this time as he wrapped up victory over the eighth seed in one hour 20 minutes.
The win gave Berdych his third career ATP title and his first on grass.
Federer's decision to pull out of the tournament after he complained of fatigue following his loss to Rafael Nadal in the French Open final left the competition wide open.
From the start the 21-year-old Berdych looked one of the favourites with his strong serve and aggressive ground game.
He reached the final without dropping a set and his all-round strength meant he was always in command against Baghdatis, who reached the semifinals at Wimbledon last year.
