Biz meet to heighten Anhui's global appealIn order to increase the international business community's awareness of Anhui, the East China province will host the 2007 China International Anhui Businesspeople Conference, also known as Investment and Trade Expo 2007, from May 18 to 20 at Anhui International Convention and Exhibition Center in Hefei, its capital city.

The conference is sponsored by the Anhui provincial government and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, and organized by the Anhui provincial department of commerce and Hefei city government.

The event will include activities such as the opening ceremony, an introduction meeting for Anhui's investment environment, an agreement signing ceremony, the Forum on Anhui Businesspeople, trade and investment forums involving Anhui and Japan, Germany and the Republic of Korea, as well as China's Taiwan Province, and Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions. The meet will also feature a job fair, an international outsourcing meeting, an introduction meeting for Anhui's tourism industry, and forums on local enterprises going public overseas, on Anhui's cultural industry, the automobile and auto parts industry and on the trade service industry.

Anhui's entrepreneurs have enjoyed countrywide renown over the past centuries. The business community in Anhui, based mainly in the southern part of the province, began its rise during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) and witnessed a period of prosperity during the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.

For the past 300 years, Anhui's business community has taken the national lead in terms of invested capital, operational scope and scale, the number of entrepreneurs involved and their influence.

Relying on its unique geographic location, rich natural resources, sound industrial foundation and well-developed scientific, cultural, transportation and communication facilities, Anhui has maintained a strong momentum in its economic development to the present day.

The province is now one of the important bases in the country for energy, raw materials, electricity and electronics, automobile and textile industries.

With its opening-up process in full sway, the province has grown into an important destination for overseas investment. More than 7,000 overseas-invested enterprises have set up operations there and Anhui has taken the lead in China's central and western regions in terms of foreign investment volume.

In the years to come, the province will strengthen its industrial development, further integrate itself into the neighboring Yangtze River Delta region - an economic powerhouse in China - and enhance international economic cooperation.

Anhui expects the 2007 China International Anhui Businesspeople Conference to be a good platform for businesspeople from all over the world to forge partnerships with the local business community in order to reap the benefits of the province's rapid economic development.
