Lithuanian Olympians to wear Chinese gear
China's local sports equipments brand Kangta has teamed up with Lithuania Olympic Committee at the Beijing Olympics next year.
All Lithuanian athletes and officials will be wearing Kangta clothes on the opening and awarding ceremony.
"This is a great deal for both sides," said Xiao Jingyun, general-manager of Beijing Kingwing International Sports Management Co. Ltd, which promotes the partnerships.
"Getting involved in the Beijing Olympics is a great access to develop a brand like Kangta."
Basketball
WCBA All-star Games to be held in Yunnan
Women's Chinese basketball Association (WCBA) All-star Games will be staged in Qujing, Yunnan Province on Saturday, organizer announced yesterday.
The former Sacramento Monarchs of WNBA Miao Lijie will lead the Northern Team against the southern opponents, which features her WNBA teammate Sun Feifei.
The Games is organized by Chinese Basketball Association, Qujing municipal government and sponsored by Lide Real Estate, Tebu, Sangou Distillery and spalding.
After the All-star Games, Sui, Miao and Chen Nan will head for the United States for WNBA pre-season training camp.
Miao and Sui played for the Monarchs last season but managed modest 1.7 points per game and 1.4 each.
China's first WNBA player was Zheng Haixia, who played for the Los Angeles Sparks in 1997 and 1998, the league's first two seasons.
Snooker
Beijing holds large-scale amateur competition
The Beijing 10,000-people snooker rankings competition will be held from May to July.
The event marks the longest and biggest folk competition of its kind with over 100 snooker houses in the Chinese capital taking part.
Enthusiasts, aged between 10 to 65, can register at www.ccsports.com.cn or at the snooker houses starting today.
Competitions inlcude snooker, 8-ball pool and women's 9-ball. Snooker and pool are for both men and women.
In order to make it easy for the players to see their latest results and rankings in the tournament, China Community Sports Union Net (ccsports.com.cn) was launched yesterday.
Beijing's cue sport is on an upcurve thanks to the rise of Ding Junhui and Pan Xiaoting. Pan won the 9-ball World Championships last month in Taipei while Ding also has the pleasure to become the first Chinese mainland player to compete in the snooker Worlds this week.
