Website launched for Women's World Cup

FIFA has demonstrated its increasingly awareness of the importance of women's soccer's development in China by launching a Chinese version of the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup channel on FIFA.com.

They have also joined with the nation's popular online service provider Tencent to set up an exclusively official website.

FIFA will offer exclusive and first-hand information about the tournament, which takes place from September 10 to 30 in China's five cities, to Tencent's portal website QQ.com and will also share updated news about hosts China's performances.

"Tencent has over 580 million registered users. It will help promote FIFA in China and it is helpful for communication and interaction between FIFA and Chinese fans," said Urs Linsi, general secretary of the world's soccer governing body.

Fans can log on http://sports.qq.com/fwwc2007/index.htm and www. FIFA.com to get the latest news.

China Mountaineering Association (CMS) and Taiwan computer brand Asus signed a contract last week to become strategic partners.

Under the deal, Asus will provide IT support in all CMA's climbing activities from now on to the end of 2008. And Asus PCs, pocket computers and other wireless products will be sole official products for the Chinese Mountaineering Team.

Phone company joins tennis league

World leading mobile phone producer Sony Ericsson has announced it will join the Chinese College Tennis League this year.

"Teaming up with Sony Ericsson is a great encouragement for us," said Yang Liguo, general-secretary of Chinese Students Sports Association. "With their steady support, I am confident of bringing college tennis to another level."

A total of 100 universities from four conferences - eastern, western, northern and southern - have joined the league that kicks off in late May. The national final will be staged in Beijing in June.

The event is organized by Sony Ericsson, Chinese Students Sports Association, and the educational and sports authorities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong and Sichuan.
