Secret to a sound sleep is elementary
Feng Shui is important in Taoism because it emphasizes the relationship between the environment and good health. Taoists believe that bad bedroom decoration can lead to poor sleep.
Once an elderly lady who had long suffered from nightmares approached Wang Chengya saying that no doctors she visited could help. Wang suggested that she change her red curtain to a blue one and then turn her head to an opposite position when going to bed.
After two days of following Wang's suggestions, the old lady stopped having nightmares.
Wang's tips were all based on the Taoist theories of the yin and yang as well as the Five Elements (metal, wood, earth, water and fire). Yin and yang is an ancient philosophy about the balance of nature.
The east, where she was facing to sleep, was characterized by wood, which must burn to produce fire. The red curtain also belongs to the fire element, which is characterized by yang. However, the elderly woman was characterized by yin.
The opposition between yin and yang would lead to anxiety, thus affecting the elderly lady's sleep. Changing her curtain's color and her sleeping position balanced her living environment.
