Don't throw out books - recycle
A system for recycling textbooks should be set up to save resources and build an environment-friendly society, says a signed article in Modern Life Daily. An excerpt follows:
According to a recent report in China Youth Daily, a group of trash collectors often gathers around Beijing universities because the material collected from students is of good quality and in large quantity. A long-time collector told the reporter that graduation season will increase business.
A large portion of the trash collected on campus is textbooks. According to statistics of the General Administration of Press and Publication, paper usage for all publications in 2005 increased by 7.9 percent compared with the previous year. Paper usage for textbooks accounted for 11.38 percent of the total. Of the 4,858 different textbooks, new ones only totaled 1,676. The rest were reprinted or revised. It would be great if students could recycle their textbooks back to the schools instead of selling them to trash collectors.
