Lin's journey to the Westside

By Mu Qian | China Daily | Updated: 2007-04-14 06:52

Playing 16 roles in one musical show is an extraordinary achievement in the career of pop singer Lin Yilun. "It is a tiring, but at the same time very satisfying experience," said Lin about his acting in I Love You, a Chinese version of the Off-Broadway musical I Love You, You Are Perfect. Now Change.

Next Tuesday, the Chinese version of this iconic Broadway musical will kick off the Beijing International Theater Festival, before leaving for New York, where the original version was born in 1996 and is still going strong. I Love You will open at New York's Westside Theater next month until early June and will be performed in Chinese with English subtitles.

"To dig into our own creativity, the director didn't let us see videos of the original production," said Lin. "In New York I will see the original for the first time, since we will perform in the same theater."
