IN BRIEF (Page 16)
Positive position
European Union Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson said yesterday he was positive about global trade talks taking place in India this week.
Asked by reporters whether he was entering the talks with an open mind, he said: "Of course. Always positive, always on the front foot. Always showing flexibility, and I will do my best to sustain that position on the European Union's behalf."
Recovery likely
South Korean mobile phone chip maker Core Logic Inc said yesterday it expects to see its profit recover from later this quarter, helped by new handset models from Samsung.
South Korean mobile phone parts makers, most of whom rely heavily on local makers Samsung and LG, are expected to see an earnings boost after a sluggish fourth quarter as mobile phone sales by their main clients pick up.
Adecco to delist
Adecco, the world's largest staffing firm, said yesterday it intended to delist from the New York Stock Exchange, as trading volumes in its shares had fallen since 2000.
"The average daily trading volume of ADRs (American Depositary Receipts) has declined since 2000 and accounts for less than 2 percent of the total shares traded in both 2005 and 2006," the group said in a statement.
Sales accelerate
India's passenger car sales rose 2.9 percent in March to a record as new models from Suzuki Motor Corp and Tata Motors Ltd spurred demand from the nation's growing middle class.
Car sales in March totaled 114,195 compared with 110,978 a year earlier, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers said in a statement in New Delhi yesterday.
