BEIJING
Pierre Cardin collection
Pierre Cardin presented its 2007 autumn/winter collection designed by Sergio Altieri last Friday at Beijing's Southeast Corner Tower. Some 60 models showed off designs on the themes "Hit the Road", "Adventure" and "Lumiere Noir", besides some wedding dresses.
"Hit the Road" is designed for the intrepid traveler. The men's clothes use material such as raw leather, heavy wool, corduroy and thick caddice. "Adventure" features a bold contrast of colors and the mixing-matching of different fabrics, while "Lumiere Noir" is vintage Pierre Cardin extravagance and civility.
Celebrities to the aid
Chinese actresses Vivian Wu, Christy Chung, singer Pace Wu (pictured left) from Taiwan and 2005 Super Girl Li Yuchun have been selected spokespersons for MAC AIDS Funds established by the cosmetics brand MAC.
They anchored the ceremony held by MAC to donate one million yuan ($129,000) to UNICEF China on Saturday in Beijing. The four will also join an anti-AIDS trip to Shanghai, Chongqing, Yunnan and Xinjiang.
Gold couture
Gold glamor took center stage at the final awards ceremony of AngloGold Ashanti AuDITIONS China last Wednesday, where a stunning fusion of fashion and bold gold couture jewelry wowed about 500 guests, celebrities, jewelry designers and jewelry enthusiasts at the 798 Art Center in Beijing.
AngloGold Ashanti AuDITIONS is the world's most expansive gold jewelry design contest with competitions taking place in India, Brazil, South Africa, the Middle East and now China.
All 17 designers who designed the couture collection came to Beijing from across China and were hosted at the gala event to watch their pieces paraded on the catwalk and then listen expectantly for the announcement of the winners.
Jiang Baoluo from Shanghai won the overall winner's prize for couture design with his design of two gold eggs made of gold thread weaved in a bird's nest effect.
