Fighting racism

Comments on Raymond Zhou's column "A clear case of racist lunacy" (China Daily, March 17)

I have to say this is one of the best articles I have read in a long time. It has potential to let others know that racism is a problem all over the world and for all races.

As the author says, most people are racists, but most people also are kind enough and intelligent enough to deal with their preconcieved ideas of other races.

I hope this article is a wake-up call to those who really care about this issue. We can start speaking up when we hear or see something that we know in our hearts is not correct.

If we are white, we can speak up about white racism. If we are black, we can speak up about black racism. If we are Asian, we can speak up about Asian racism.

The same goes for discrimination based on nationality and religion.

There is no reason for ignorance and bigotry in an increasingly globalized world. We can get rid of this lunacy just like the world got rid of the lunacy of fascism.

Keeping China warm

Comment on Li Xing's column "Cold truth about our city heating" (China Daily, March 22)

With all the technology in China there should be a good heating system.

China should get into geothermal heating. It costs very little. And wind generated power is almost free.

Why do we even need nuclear power? It's just putting the waste in the ground that will someday pollute the ground.

'Nail household'

Comment on China Daily's website's Hot Talks "Should the 'nail household' move".

We should applaud the owners of the old house for refusing to be moved by the real estate developer.

The developer is calling them the "nail household". In fact, the real estate developers are the pirates, robbers.

If all Chongqing residents behaved like this lone household and refused to take the compensation and move out, Chongqing could be in tatters. A responsible citizen should be reasonable, and abide by the law. Of course, you can negotiate with the developer for better compensation.

Buddha power

I have to admit that I was in a temple to pray to Buddha to be accepted by a London university two years ago. Although I knew that success depended on my efforts not Buddha, I still wished to do so, just to make sure that I was accepted.

I was accepted and went to the UK. Now I am back in China working in a company. I don't want to say whether my behavior was right or wrong, because it's very hard to tell.
