You can book a hotel online, but some of them will charge the room service. Book a hotel at the airport when you arrive. The price arranges from $7-20 per person for one night in a 2-star Hanoi hotel. Hotel prices are much higher in Saigon.
Do not just bring summer clothes. It is okay for Ho Chi Minh, but not for Halong Bay.
Motorbikes are a popular form of transport in Vietnam and the fee is fairly low if it is within 3 kilometers, it is about 15,000 Dong (about 90 US cents).
Pho, rice noodle soup, is a traditional Vietnamese dish you must try. Go to the Pho 24, the first Vietnamese fast food chain in the country, to experience a good one, with the price of about 24,000 Dong ($1.5) for each. Of course, you can get cheaper ones on the street.
Don't forget to take suntan lotion and a good book when heading to the beach.
