Gold mine operator fined for digging in reserve

The Forestry Public Security Bureau of Kekexili (Hoh Xil) National Nature Reserve has fined the owner of a gold mine 200,000 yuan ($25,800) for operating illegally in the reserve.

Local police found a group of workers employed by a businessman surnamed Wang digging in the reserve last July and immediately stopped them. The law forbids commercial activity of any kind in the reserve.
