Spirit of the Olympics
The 3rd Beijing International Art Biennale will be part of the "Culture Olympics" events during the 2008 Olympics.
The biennale, scheduled to run side by side with the Beijing Games, will present 800 contemporary paintings and sculptures by artists from some 70 countries and regions, said Liu Dawei, vice-chairman of Chinese Artists Association and key member of the organizing committee. Contemporary British art and sports shown in the paintings from the mid-19th century to the end of 20th century will also be exhibited.
The 3rd Beijing International Art Biennale will add a new dimension to the Olympic movement and serve as a rare chance for talented artists to contribute to the artistic interpretation and dissemination of the Olympic spirit, said Liu.
