By Zhu Zhe | China Daily | Updated: 2007-01-09 07:08

Police killed 18 terrorists and arrested 17 others during a raid on a training camp in northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

During one of the largest anti-separatist operations in recent years, one policeman died and another injured, Ba Yan, spokeswoman for the Xinjiang Public Security Bureau, told a news briefing yesterday.

She said the gunbattle took place on Friday at a camp run by the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, or ETIM, which the United Nations labeled a terrorist organization in 2002.
