Full of tricks

Magic Club, a magic-themed bar in the sprawling Cloud Nine Shopping Mall, offers drinks along with a package of magic tricks for 300 yuan.

If you prefer to watch professionals, magicians provide tableside entertainment. We were reasonably impressed when we were shown how to make one small sponge heart into two, although we were less impressed to find that a Blue Hawaiian (55 yuan) was magically substituted without our input when they ran out of Cognac Egg Nog (55 yuan). Thankfully, a Bailey's on ice (48 yuan) and Black Russian (55 yuan) took the edge off.

The lack of people was a bit disconcerting as was the purple and black decor, intergalactic-themed overhead lighting design and framed pictures of David Copperfield and Siegfried and Roy which take the bar's theme to an extreme.

If you're looking to learn a party trick or two, make an early evening out of it as they close at 10pm. Perfect For: aspiring magicians and their lovely assistants.
