Get your groove on

If you're looking for action any night of the week, the best bet is to tell your taxi driver to head to one of the two most saturated late-night districts in town. If you're in the mood for mostly drinking, tell the driver to head for Sanlitun Jiu Ba Jie. But if you've got to get your groove on, then Gongti (Worker's Stadium) is the place to be.

All four of the entrance gates to the Worker's Stadium offer a super club experience, where big sound systems plus big DJs plus big money equals one very big night out. And just when it seemed almost impossible to open yet another new posh dance venue, Club Camp arrived on the scene.

Located behind Gongtixilu, just south of the Worker's Stadium West gate, Club Camp shares the same entrance as Coco Banana, sitting on the top floor. An endless view of clubbers stepping out of taxis and queuing into lines can be witnessed from the elevator as it carries you six storeys up to the club's entrance.

A sliding wall leads into an open-plan, dimly lit lounge space. Functioning as both a restaurant and a nightclub, private rooms with walls of windows are available for advanced dinner reservations. Lounge sofas and intimate booths outline the central dance floor, offering ample space for dancing. And just like any other super club on the block, the Camp sound system is slightly deafening, but only if you get too close while DJ worshipping.

The recent opening night of the premier club was hosted by Acupuncture Records, Beijing's very own electronic dance music label. A crowd-pleasing list of hot local DJs kept the floor packed until sunrise, with minimal-tech house beats and independently produced tracks. Drinks were excellently poured and most cocktails were a moderate 30 to 40 kuai.

The chic and understated elegance of the club is a refreshing addition to the super club strip. If its opening success is any indication, Club Camp will soon join the ranks of the city's hottest nightlife spots.
