The National Orchestra of Spain is to perform in concert with guitar maestro Jose Maria Gallardo Del Rey at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center this weekend.
Apenino combines electronic sound with traditional instruments in a delicate performance of classic and modern. Vocalist Marco Maril, who also composes and writes lyrics, has been praised for his simple, clean and transparent music.
Next Sunday, the National Orchestra of Spain will perform four dances from "Estancia - Concierto de Aranjuez," "Carmen Suite," "Suite No. 2 from The Three Cornered Hat" and "Bolero."
It will be conducted by Josep Pons, chief conductor since 2003 and widely sought as a guest conductor worldwide.
He recently appeared with the Goteborg (Sweden) Symfoniker, the Orchestre National de France, Radio France Philharmonic and the Tokyo City Philharmonic.
His recordings of Spanish repertoire, notably the complete works of Manuel de Falla, earned him highest awards, including the "Diapason d' Or" and "CD Compact Award."
He received the National Music Award from the Spanish Ministry of Culture in 1999.
Classical guitarist Gallardo Del Rey started his performance career when he was nine years old. Since then he has regularly performed in theaters such as the Champs Elysee of Paris, the Konzerthaus of Vienna, the Auditorium Stravinski of Montreux, the National Auditorium and the Royal Theater of Madrid, the Performance Arts Center of California and Carnegie Hall.
His interpretation, technique and perspective transcend the classic guitar repertoire and imitations of the instrument; he uses them in ballet, theater, opera, flamenco, jazz and chamber music.
On the centenary of the birth of classical guitar legend Joaquin Rodrigo, Gallardo Del Rey interpreted his guitar and orchestra concerts around the world. The Classical Guitar hailed Gallardo Del Rey as the guitarist of his generation.
