Eleven teams from nine countries including the US, the UK, France and Germany participated in the first ever foreigner-only hot pot contest held at a hot pot restaurant in Chengdu city, Southwest China's Sichuan province, on Saturday.

After a chef demonstrated how to make the hot pot base, the contest began.

However, participants could not distinguish the seasonings from ingredients, so judges of the contest were stunned to see many of them pouring Sichuan pepper, green pepper, pineapples, curry and meat sauce into the pot to make the hot pot base.

The judges could not stop shedding tears after tasting the dishes boiled in the competitors' hot pots, as some said that the taste was different from what they were used to.
