Fu Ying, spokeswoman for the National People's Congress (NPC), held a press conference on this year's session and credited the success of the fight against corruption in better supervision of delegates.

Replying to a question on the 39 NPC delegates that have resigned or been removed after violating laws or rules, Fu attributed it to the success of anti-graft campaign over the past two years by the central government and better supervision of the delegates.

The public, she said, places great expectations on delegates and they should become role models who respect the law. Fu also highlighted that there are millions of delegates covering five levels and 2.67 million – or half of them – are at or below county level. She called for greater supervision regarding the upcoming election of the delegates at the grassroots level, especially after fraud was uncovered in Hengyang province involving more than 500 delegates.
