SHANGHAI - At least ten children are employed in a Suzhou electronics factory, an official from the labor supervision brigade of Suzhou's Wuzhong district told China Daily on Monday.

"Officials from the district government and our brigade have gone to the plant to investigate and collect evidence," said the official, surnamed Zhou.

Another official from the district bureau of human resources and social security, surnamed Yang, confirmed that there are children working at the factory, but said none of the children were as young as nine years old, as had been reported.

The official inspection of the Suzhou Nousstar Electronic Technology Co Ltd was triggered after an Internet user named Quanquantian uploaded a posting and video clip in which a dozen boys and girls around 1.5 meters in height were seen working on an assembly line.

The posting said these children were taken to the factory by a neighbor, who forwards the children's wages to their families. The children work nearly 12 hours a day, the posting said.
