BEIJING - China's central government and Central Military Commission have jointly honored two units and a medical officer of the People's Armed Police Force (PAPF) for their outstanding contributions in disaster relief operations, according to a statement sent to Xinhua Sunday.
Premier Wen Jiabao and Chairman Hu Jintao of the Central Military Commission signed the mandate to give Class I Merit Citations to the Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture contingent of the PAPF's Qinghai Provincial Squadron, the PAPF's No. 8653 troop and Hou Shike, president of the hospital affiliated with the PAPF's Medical College, according to the statement.
The statement did not reveal any further details about the troops or Hou Shike but complimented their prominent contributions to disaster relief missions.
Both troops were listed as honorary units in August last year for their relief work after a magnitude-7.1 earthquake hit Yushu on April 14, 2010.
Hou Shike is also the captain of the medial division under the Chinese International Search and Rescue Team (CISAR).
The PAPF is under the dual command of the State Council and the Central Military Commission.
