ZHENGZHOU - A section of a railway in Central China's Henan province resumed service Thursday afternoon after being closed due to persistent rains, according to local railway authorities.

A section of the Longhai Railway, a key transportation link between the city of Lianyungang in eastern Jiangsu province and the city of Lanzhou in northwestern Gansu province, is back in operation after being reinforced against rain-triggered erosion, a spokesman from the Zhengzhou Railway Bureau said.

Continuous rain eroded cobblestones and soil supporting a section of the railway running through Henan's city of Sanmenxia, creating a 120-meter-long crevice, according to the spokesman.
