SHENZHEN- Four people were killed when a 70-meter-high crane collapsed in Guangdong Province late Tuesday afternoon, local authorities said Wednesday.

The accident happened at the construction site of the workers' residential buildings of BYD Battery Co., Ltd. located at the Dayawan Economic and Technical Development Zone in the city of Huizhou, said a spokesman of the zone's management committee.

Three workers were killed at the scene, and the other one died in hospital after treatment failed, the management committee said.

Construction has been suspended and the cause of the accident is being investigated.
