The accident happened at around 1:38 p.m. when the four-wheel farm vehicle broke the guardrail and ran into a passenger train on a railway linking Jining City and Tongliao City, said a spokesman with the regional administration of work safety.

Five passengers on the farm vehicle died at the scene.

An initial investigation blamed the accident on the brake failure of the farm vehicle. Furthur investigation is still underway.
