Six die in truck-bus collision in east China

FUZHOU: At least six people died and 14 others were injured Sunday after a truck broke through the division guardrail and collided head-on with a bus on an expressway in east China's Fujian Province, according to local authorities.

Two people on the truck, including the driver, and four passengers on the bus were killed on the spot, said a spokesman with Putian City's department of publicity, who declined to give his name.

The accident occurred at 6:52 a.m. on the Putian's Chengxiang district section of the expressway linking Shenyang City, capital of northeastern Liaoning Province and Haikou City, capital of southern Hainan Province.

The injured were immediately sent to hospital and the cause of the accident is being investigated, said the spokesman.

Another truck was damaged as it rear-ended the bus.

The spokesman gave no further details.
