A woman who had fallen from the 11th-floor window of a hotel in Chongqing early last Monday morning is recovering in hospital after having her fall broken by a ledge on a lower floor.

A resident of the building next to the hotel heard someone groaning at about 3 am and when he looked outside he saw a woman lying on the ledge outside a sixth-floor window.

He called police, who joined firefighters in helping the woman down to the ground and then off to the hospital. Doctors said the woman's pelvis was broken.

Apparently, she had taken 10 sleeping pills before falling from her widow.

Police are investigating the case.
