Honorary citizen of Sarajevo

Angelina Jolie is to become an honorary citizen of Sarajevo.

The 36-year-old actress - who recently became engaged to long-term partner Brad Pitt - is being thanked for bringing the plight of the war in Bosnia to the world with her directorial debut 'In the Land of Blood and Honey'.

A source told Us Weekly magazine the government wanted to pay tribute to Angelina for "her contribution to the preservation of truth about the war in Sarajevo and in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and her dedication to the protection of the principles of humanity, democracy, tolerance and solidarity between people of different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds".

The recipients of the citizenship are due to receive them at Sarajevo Canton's parliament on May 3.

Angelina received the Heart of Sarajevo award at the Bosnian capital's film festival last year, and upon accepting it cried about how much she loved the country.

She said: "I love this country. I will start crying if you don't stop.

"This movie was a chance to bring attention to the situation that happened so long ago, and I hope that it brings attention and more dialogue to remind people what everybody here went through.

"I spent last year with some wonderful people from this country. I have never worked with such a disciplined and talented crew."
