Love's neat but revenge is sweet for Zhang Yuqi

China Daily | Updated: 2011-03-25 11:14

The headline news this week in showbiz circles was the extravagant wedding of playboy Wang Xiaofei and Barbie Hsu in sunny Sanya.

A constellation of stars turned up for the event and there were tears of joy all round. You wouldn't have guessed it for all the stories and pictures that covered the wedding, but the press was barred, as were cell phones and recording devices.

Also, sadly, despite a rule that the best men and bridesmaids had to wear flat shoes so as not to upstage the bride and groom, the most photographed individuals were in fact the model bridesmaids - Makiyo, Pace Wu and A-ya - who wore semi-transparent purple gowns ... and heels!

But let's spare a thought for the spurned Zhang Yuqi. Readers may recall that Wang, heir to a restaurant fortune, unceremoniously dumped her when he fell head over heels for the Taiwan actress Hsu.

Instead of lying low and moping, however, Zhang turned up at an underwear event dressed to kill and when netizens compared her with the demure Hsu, all dressed in white, it was Zhang who was judged the winner. Ahhhh! Revenge is sweet.

The transformation of TV star Raymond Lam from squeaky-clean idol to lothario has been blindingly quick. No sooner is he exposed for having an affair with the unnaturally well-endowed model Pan Shuangshuang, than he is caught taking the almost equally gifted Beijing TV anchor Wen Ya to a hotel.

Lam, whose affair with Pan was mysteriously exposed when a set of photos clearly taken by her found their way onto the Internet, is refusing to say any more about it except that they broke up some time ago because of compatibility problems (for geeks out there, this IS analogous to Macs and PCs not communicating).

Pan claims her assistant must have uploaded the private photos of her and Lam sleeping together, out of spite, and has been fired. But let's face it, this is the thinnest excuse since George W. Bush claimed weapons of mass destruction in Iraq as the basis for invading that country.

Staying with Lam excuses, the TV star tacitly admits he is seeing Wen but claims that a photo showing them dining together was Photoshopped to remove the other people that were with them. Moot point because the only photo we have seen of the couple dejeuner a deux does have other people in the picture.

Moving on. China's best-looking man, the hunk Huang Xiaoming stands accused of being a love cheat. His ex, the actress Li Fei'er, claims she and Huang were an item from 2007 to 2010. She says she first heard rumors that the stunning Hong Kong model and occasional actress Angelababy was moving in on her man in 2009, but refused to believe it.

She was only forced to accept the truth when she managed to steal a peek at Huang's phone and saw the message: "When exactly will you give me an answer? What I want is a boyfriend, not a sex partner!"

And that was the end of that. Li says she's not bitter, after all, "There is no right or wrong in love".
