MONTEVIDEO -- Uruguayan President Jose Mujica said Friday that his recent visit to China confirmed the interest of China's public and private sectors in investing in Uruguayan public projects.

During Mujica's visit last month, Chinese President Xi Jinping said China will encourage its companies to participate in the construction of Uruguayan ports and railways.

In a radio address on Friday, Mujica said an agreement has been reached on the participation of Chinese companies and banks in the building of a deep-water port on the Atlantic coast and reconstruction of a railway which has much geographical importance.

"We already have the will, money and capacity to start building. We have to resolve some concrete legal matters," he said. "Now the ball is in our court."

At the invitation of Xi, Mujica paid a visit to China from May 25 to May 28. The two leaders agreed to further cooperation in various fields to step up bilateral relations.
