BEIJING - Chinese stocks closed lower on Thursday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dropping by 0.22 percent, or 4.85 points, to close at 2,186.30.

The Shenzhen Component Index rose 0.28 percent, or 25.10 points, to finish at 8,909.35.
