In 1969, a group of valuable relics, such as bronze chariots, horses and guards, were unearthed by Gansu Provincial Museum from a brick tomb of the late Eastern Han Dynasty in Wuwei county. Among them, there was the Bronze Galloping Horse later named as a national treasure. In February 1983, it was selected as a trademark for Chinese tourism by the China National Tourism Administration.
