Italian tire maker Pirelli launched "Being Fast Takes Time", a digital platform to build awareness of rubber tree, share the commitment to the preservation of biodiversity, and support the development of the community and local economy in such countries as Indonesia and Thailand.

The project seeks to help understand how precious the natural equilibrium is and follows the path on which the Milan-based company embarked in 2017 with its Sustainable Natural Rubber Policy, born of the ongoing multi-stakeholder dialogue conducted by the company to govern the sustainable and responsible supply of natural rubber along the whole value chain.

"Pursuing sustainable development means always looking ahead to tomorrow, keeping it clear that economic, environmental and human capital are interdependent and should be managed as such," said Marco Tronchetti Provera, executive vice-chairman and CEO of Pirelli.

"We have always worked to create enduring value, based on the passion and skill of our people, and this approach is also found in our sustainable natural rubber policy," he said.

Pirelli invested in a new consumer tire production plant in China through a joint venture with Hixih Group in 2018.

The new plant, which was put into use at the beginning of 2019, will give Pirelli the necessary production flexibility in the high-value segment, addressing the evolution of the Chinese market, the expected developments in electric vehicles and the growing share of homologations obtained in the original equipment segment in China, Japan and South Korea.
