Maybe it was the beautiful weather I was to experience or maybe the spellbinding moments of at last seeing the Great Wall as the train crossed and descended over the Badaling Pass? However as we approached Beijing I was starting to feel relaxed, indeed revitalized. It was certainly helped by the genuine friendliness of people I was meeting on the train. Although few could speak English, at that time, there were many smiles and handshakes and indeed several times, "Welcome to China".
