A fascination with Beijing that started over thirty years ago

Similarly, that other great historic site, the Temple of Heaven, located southeast of the central city again had me spellbound! There I learned of how the emperors would come in lengthy processions from the Forbidden City for annual ceremonies incorporating prayers for good harvests. Dating from the reign of the Yongle Emperor, today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It certainly presents a masterpiece in Chinese architecture and design. I was fascinated to discover how the main Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests was constructed entirely of wood without the use of nails. A lot of symbolism centered around the layout of its buildings and surrounding grounds.
