Experiencing local culture in folk crafts and ethnic costumes

The city of Hohhot hosted a group of activities to attract more people to learn about Mongolian culture.

Whistling meadows

At 7 am daily, lawyer Kui Jiliang puts on his designer suit to head to work in downtown Beijing. But before that, for about 15 minutes, he practices khoomei, an ancient throat-singing technique of the ethnic Mongolians and Tuvans, in which the vocalist is able to sing in two voices simultaneously.

Photographer captures online shopping trend in China

China Photographers Association member Huang Qingjun has for several years focused his lens on the trend of online shopping in China and how it's changed people's lives. The pictures below feature people from all over the country sharing their experiences with online shopping.

Hoomii

The Mongolian 'chor' is multi-part singing sung by just one person. Hoomii, in Mongolian, means larynx.

Matouqin music

The instrument has a long history, and it was quite popular with the Mongolian people during the early period of the 13th century.

Sihu music

The sihu, a bowed instrument, is so named because of its four strings and it is commonly found in Inner Mongolia.
