The Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone (Toutunhe district) is building an online + offline system for local environment protection, local media reported on Sept 2.

The zone established an online information platform in 2013 to monitor protection cases for the local environment.

More than 200 inspectors, including 185 staff members and volunteers from local 83 communities, tour around the zone daily for eight hours. If environmental problems are discovered, pictures and case information are uploaded to the online platform.

Grid supervisors regularly research cases and report them to the local government's environmental department for solutions.

"These inspectors are the eyes of local environmental departments," said Li Jing, head of Toutunhe district's social services management bureau.

At present, the online platform receives over 400 cases every day and has met a public satisfaction rate of over 95 percent.

Sun Youxin, deputy director of the Toutunhe district's environment protection bureau, said that once the office receives a report, they inspect the site and seek out immediate solutions.

Toutunhe has become the first national development zone to carry out ecological demonstration in northwest China, and is currently aiming to build a China-Central Asia ecological environment protection demonstrative base.
