A company in the Urumqi Economic and Technological Development Zone sold vegetables on Nov 2 to raise money for a child with leukemia.

The organizer of the activity, New Tongchuang Auto Air-Conditioning Co, set prices 30 percent lower than normal, with sale proceeds going to the child's care.

"We want to help local people to store vegetables in winter and also donate all the money we get to the sick child," said Li Wenyu, the company’s manager.

The patient is a 14-year-old boy in a local community. Born to a poor single-parent family, his illness was crushing to everyone.

Recently, staff of the community visited the child. They donated 500 yuan ($73) to him and called for local companies' help.

Li Wenyu therefore organized the activity to help the child and also called for more companies and people to aid the family.

About 2,000 yuan was gained from the vegetable selling, all of which was given to the child's mother.

"I am really touched to see the community help us. Thank you all," the mother said.
