Top court opens base for environmental damage judicial research

An Environmental Damage Judicial Authentication Research Base of the Supreme People's Court (SPC) was founded in North China's Tianjin Municipality on Nov 12.

Jiang Bixin, vice president of the SPC and Shu Gequn, vice president of Tianjin University jointly unveiled the research base.

The opening of the base enables research on judicial theories on the environment and natural resources through cooperation between the Environment and Resources Division of the SPC and universities, according to Jiang.

The research base is part of the pursuit of ecological civilization, and is one of the efforts to build a beautiful China, he added, noting that it is urgent for the SPC to solve the problems in environmental damage cases.

At the launching ceremony, Professor Sun Youhai was appointed as director of the base, and some 20 experts and scholars in relevant fields were employed as researchers.

A Cooperative Framework Agreement between the Environment and Resources Division of the SPC and Tianjin University was also signed.
