A new standard for state compensation for infringing citizens' personal freedom was released by the Supreme People's Court and became effective on May 16.

Under the new standard residents whose personal freedom is unjustly curtailed will be given 242.3 yuan ($37.17) per day in compensation.

The State Compensation Law stipulates, "If freedom of a citizen is infringed, compensatory payment for each day shall be assessed in accordance with the state average daily pay of staff and workers in the previous year.”

The average daily pay of urban workers in the non-private sector was 242.3 yuan ($ 37.17) per day in 2015, according to the latest report released by the National Bureau of Statistics on May 13.
