SPC vows judicial guarantee for Tibet’s development

On August 31, the leading Party group of the Supreme People’s Court hosted a meeting to present and communicate the essence of the central government’s sixth working conference on Tibet.

The meeting, hosted by SPC president Zhou Qiang, called for court authorities nationwide to make a thorough study of the talks by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Premier Li Keqiang and Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the national committee of CPPCC, and to enhance judicial support for the Tibet autonomous region.

Authorities were asked to provide strong judicial services and guarantees for the long-lasting social and economic development of Tibet. The sixth working conference on Tibet, a milestone in the Party’s strategic plan for achieving all-round development, made a scientific appraisal of the current conditions and tasks in works related to Tibet.

It also pointed out the path towards the long-term development of Tibet. The SPC meeting emphasized that court authorities should carry out the rule of law principle in Tibet, and increase criminal trial proceedings to actively take part in the fight against separatist forces.

All criminal activities against the nation’s unity and social stability should be severely punished in accordance with the law to safeguard the continuous, long-term and comprehensive stability of Tibet, the meeting said. Meanwhile, the legitimate rights of people and businesses in Tibet, should be defended equally to improve people’s livelihood and create a harmonious social environment to boost economic and social development.

The meeting also called for people’s courts nationwide to further aid Tibet by enhancing their support in human resources and hosting more training classes for ethnic judges.
