The Jing'an Temple commercial area in the Lujiazui area of Shanghai's Pudong New District put on a shadow puppet show recently to give locals a taste of the skill and artistry of this traditional folk art, eastday.com reported on Feb 6, and to help preserve this art form and attract customers.

Shadow puppetry, or shadow play, is a form of storytelling that uses flat puppet-like figures that laugh, talk, and move in front of a screen, accompanied by folk songs and music. The puppets come in a range of characters from immortals to officials and scholars to common folk and the craft joined the UNESCO Cultural Heritage of Humanity list in 2011.
