The Lujiazui Financial and Trade Zone is diverse in religion. Buddhism, Catholicism, Christianity and Islam all have places of worship in Lujiazui.
Buddhism enjoys the longest history in Lujiazui compared with other religions; its introduction can be traced back to the Song Dynasty. Buddhism flourished in Lujiazui during the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Catholicism began to spread into Lujiazui in the Ming Dynasty and underwent great development after the Opium Wars (1840-1842). In the early period of the Republic of China, Catholicism also enjoyed great popularity in Lujiazui.
Christianity was introduced into Lujiazui in the late Qing Dynasty and saw development during the Republic of China.
