One highlight of the city of Shanghai's greening project can be found in the Lujiazui Financial and Trade Zone in the Pudong New District and goes by the name "Lujiauzi Central Greenbelt" and covers a 100-square–kilometer area, making it the largest open grassland in the city’s downtown area.
The area, which is surrounded by skyscrapers such as the Shanghai World Finance Center and Jin Mao tower, has been referred to as a "green lung", and is a significant part of the city's ecological system, with a 65,000-sq-m lawn dotted with plants such as camphor, willow, ginkgo, cedar, and red maple trees, and an 8,600-sq-m artificial lake.
This is a scenic spot where locals can relax and enjoy the landscape and a good place for various cultural events such as the financial culture festival, afternoon music concerts, poetry competitions and art exhibits.
It is one of the Top 10 parks favored by local people, according to an Afforestation and City Appearance Administration survey of last July.
