A testing center for hydrogen energy and fuel cells will be built in the Jiading Hydrogen Port in Jiading district, Shanghai.

Wholly-owned by the Shanghai Motor Vehicle Inspection Certification & Technology Research Center Co, the 33,333-square meter testing center will function as a hydrogen-related Class A testing center and will have more than 10 laboratories for evaluating the performances of vehicles and parts.

The facility, which represents an investment 670 million yuan ($103.59 million), will also be used as a hydrogen refueling station.

Hydrogen energy technology is one of the important technological paths to achieving China's carbon emissions peak and carbon neutrality. As such, the company plans to build the Shanghai testing center into a public service platform nationwide, said doctor Pan Xiangmin, chief engineer of the testing and research laboratory for hydrogen energy and fuel cell.

As regions across the nation are developing the hydrogen energy industry, the Yangtze River Delta is well-positioned to make a breakthrough in development in 2025 due to it leading advantages.

The construction of the testing center will commence in the third quarter of this year, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2022. When the first phase of the construction is completed, the center is expected to hire 500 employees, 80 percent of whom hold higher education certifications.
