Jiading district in Shanghai secured 31 high-quality projects with a total investment of 9.23 billion yuan ($1.43 billion) on May 14.

The projects are expected to further advance the district's high-quality economic development.

Among them, five related to the automobile industry will help Jiading promote its "new four modernizations - electrification, intelligent networking, sharing, and internationalization" strategy.

Chen Jiakai, president of Shenzhen Kohodo Hydrogen Energy Company, said that Jiading has a sound business environment and a solid industrial base for the development of the automobile industry, as well as mature supporting conditions for carmakers.

Kohodo will set up a headquarter base for the development of hydrogen energy, which includes a high-level research and development (R&D) center, a demonstration project, an experience center, and an exhibition hall for hydrogen energy. The base will speed up the R&D and pilot application of the frontier technologies of hydrogen energy, according to Chen.

According to the district's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), Jiading will accelerate the development of its automobile industry and continue to boost its pillar industries, including automobile, smart sensors, internet of things, high-powered medical equipment, and precision medicine industries, to foster new growth drivers.

Due to the local government's efforts, Jiading attracted 14,467 new enterprises in the first four months of the year, bringing in a total investment of 22.64 billion yuan.
